This recently completed modern cabin serves as a getaway for a couple living in Vancouver, BC. who longed for a simple dwelling to escape their hectic urban lives. The cabin is a long rectangular volume with a shed roof facing spectacular views of Salt Spring Island and the Salish Sea. Situated below the access road, the structure is nestled into the surrounding landscape making it feel unobtrusive and purposeful. The rectangular plan is separated by a fully glassed entry area providing views toward the lake and ocean as well as a covered outdoor area with skylight. To one side of the entry, a self-contained guest suite offers privacy for visitors and family while the other side of the entry provides access to the living spaces, office, and master bedroom. A long deck runs parallel with the house on the view side spanning the gully below and allowing for access via large sliding doors from all rooms.
