A modern beach house, custom-built by Mo Conforti of Conforti Homes, gets a breezy, California vibe with an open-concept design plus a complete window and door package by Ply Gem. At just 2,150 square feet, the three-bedroom home is filled with natural light and features panoramic views of Pat Bay.

“We really wanted to have the outside and inside flow together as much as possible, and be able to still see the ocean view while sitting in the back courtyard,” says Conforti, who achieved that goal with sliding doors on the main floor and master bedroom suite. “The team at Ply Gem understood our vision for keeping sightlines open and was able to meet our needs.”

The fenestration was also crucial to the overall design scheme, which incorporates the weather-washed patina of seagrasses, driftwood, and beach stones. From the exterior, all the windows, including bi-parting French sliding and swinging patio doors, feature a clear anodized aluminum finish that complements the soft tones of exterior stucco and cedar siding.

“When exterior colours are required, Ply Gem provides an aluminum clad exterior option that makes a bold statement and meets the highest architectural specifications,” says Ply Gem sales representative Tom Wyndels. Inside the home, Wyndels says, the French doors feature clear, mixed grain hem fir, clear-stained to bring out the rich grain and warm hues.

With complementary textures and colours to frame the views, the interior design scheme incorporates simple millwork in both white and natural wood finishes ranging from sandy tones in the kitchen and master bath to richer stains in the powder room.

“The floating staircase with glass railings was a splurge, but definitely worth it,” says Conforti. It’s that openness that contributes to the airy beach feel that extends upstairs, where the master bedroom floats above the sea, embellished by a paneled wall behind the bed graced with a linear window. The ensuite bath feels luxurious with a freestanding tub, floor-mounted faucet, and a floating dual vanity, all illuminated by natural light.

To ensure the home remains energy efficient, Ply Gem installed Eco Gain Glass, which insulates against heat loss from inside the house, and blocks 76 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Together, the collaborative efforts of Conforti and Ply Gem exemplify each company’s ability to bring their clients’ dreams to life.
